BACKGAMMON version 1.0 (c) 1989-1992 by Eckart Mayer and Ralf Reißing
This doc by Ralf Reißing.
BACKGAMMON should run on any ST (not STE/TT, just try) in high rez. It was
written in GFA-Basic 3.0.
BACKGAMMON is in the public domain. You may make as many copies as you like as
long as you copy all files and leave them unchanged. We cannot be made respon-
sible for any damage this program makes to your system, but it probably won't
harm anybody/anyone (!?).
This program has been designed and programmed in german, a quick-and-dirty
translation to the english language has been made by me to reach more users
throughout the world. I want to appologize for my bad english (well, i've read
things far worse than this). The doc BACKGAMM.TXT is in german, it would take
months for me to translate this, too, so I won't.
You should have the following files:
README.TXT this file
BACKGAMM.TXT german doc
BACKGAMM.DAT data-file
BACKGAMM.RSC resource (german)
BACKGAMM.SCR screen-file
BACKGAMM.PRG program (german)
BACK_ENG.RSC resource (english)
BACK_ENG.PRG program (english)
Place them all in the same folder, you should have no problems then.
How to play
------------
a) what you see on the screen
- on the top: the menu or a message, whose turn it is (while playing)
- the board with the stones (they are not round, sorry)
- on the right: the dices and piles of stones to place on the board and
those already 'played out'.
- the mouse: a hand with one/two pointing fingers for player 1/2
b) the menu
- can be accessed only at the beginning of each turn (before pressing the
left mouse-button outside the menu)
- some menu-entries:
- Review: review the last/current game
- Easy/Hard game: in the hard game the computer cheats
- Automatic placing: Enabled: the stones outside the board are placed
automatically on the board
Disabled: You have to click on your pile to place a
stone on the board
- Keep dices rolled: If enabled, your roll is remembered after cancelling
a move, if not, the dices are rolled anew.
- Change situation: you can edit the board (left button to place, right
button to take from the board/piles, you must have 15 stones at any time)
c) the rules
The player with the white stones must move his stones from field 1 to field
24, the player with the black stones vice versa. On each field there can be
only stones of one color. If you move a stone on a 'lonely' stone of your
opponent, he has to remove it from the board and place it again later in his
turn. If there is more then one stone of your opponent on a field, you can't
move on it. The player, whose 15 stones have covered the distance first,
wins. The stones must be 'played out', i.e. moved over the last field of the
board (there they are piled up).
To move an stone, click on it. It is moved corresponding to the pips on the
top die (if the move is allowed). If these pips have been moved, the die is
cleared. Before any move can be made, all stones of your color must be
placed on the board.
A lot of rules can be changed in the 'Option'-menu.
